Company History
Fimbel Garage Doors began in 1924 when Edward Fimbel, Sr., signed a franchise agreement with Overhead Door Corporation of Hartford City, Indiana, to manufacture and market overhead doors in the Northeast. After manufacturing garage doors in New Jersey for thirty years, Fimbel opened a facility in Nashua, New Hampshire, for easier distribution to the New England market. Edward’s eldest son, Paul Niver Fimbel, spearheaded this new operation in Nashua.
In 1968, under Paul’s leadership, Fimbel Garage Doors became an independent family-owned business when the franchise agreement with Overhead Door Corporation was terminated. At this time, Paul also relocated Fimbel headquarters to New Hampshire.
In 1993, Michael and Carl Fimbel, Edward’s grandsons, transitioned the company from manufacturing to retail sales with the launch of Fimbel Paunet Corporation in Nashua, supporting the company’s ability to serve the Merrimack region of southern New Hampshire. Michael and Carl opened a second retail space in Hampton, New Hampshire, in 1996, which would later relocate to Brentwood.
As the company grew, Fimbel Garage Doors expanded its service offerings to include loading dock solutions for its industrial partners.
In 2000, Fimbel Paunet Corporation relocated its Nashua operation to a brand-new showroom and full-service facility in Merrimack. Fimbel continues to look forward to a strong future providing high quality garage door products and services to our residential and commercial customers in southern New Hampshire and throughout New England.
In 2026, Fimbel broke ground [LINK à NEWS POST pub 2025-12-05] on a new state-of-the-art showroom in Epping, New Hampshire. This 11,000-square foot facility will include a 2,000-square foot showroom plus 9,000 square feet of warehouse and office space. The new expanded facility will open in 2026 and allow us to better serve our Seacoast customer base.
Our Industry Accomplishments
In 2016 Carl and the Fimbel Garage Doors Team received the Heimar “Ed” Niit Heritage Award from the International Door Association (IDA). This award was established to recognize individuals who have contributed to the well-being and heritage of the door and access systems industry.
In 2022, we received IDA’s Joe A. Caputo Dealer of the Year Award, which honors leaders who “demonstrate high integrity, are respected by peers, are quality oriented, display community and industry involvement and serve as a model door dealer company.”
In 2024, Fimbel Garage Doors acquired Door Dealer Accreditation from the Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation (IDEA), a division of IDA that manages education and professional development opportunities for organizations and individuals in the garage door an access systems industry. This seal signifies a commitment to industry excellence and is an accomplishment that fewer than one percent of garage door dealers in North America achieve.
Fimbel Garage Doors has also routinely received recognition from IDA on its Top 100 Garage Doors Dealers list. Currently, we are the top New Hampshire dealer, both overall and in the residential category.
In addition to our commitment to ongoing education and industry excellence, we have been a member of the International Door Association since 1999 and accredited by the Better Business Bureau since 1985 with a consistent A+ rating.
