Troubleshooting Guide

My garage door Will not open or close

The door completely failing to open or close is usually a power problem.

  • Check or replace the batteries in the remote or keypad
  • Confirm the remote or keypad is transmitting a signal
  • Confirm the garage door opener is connected to the power supply; check for blown fuses or tripped breakers
My garage door Opens or closes, but not all the way

Blocked or misaligned photo-eye sensors are usually the culprit if the door will not open completely or starts to close and then goes back up.

  • Clean the sensors to remove any grime
  • Confirm the sensors are properly aligned
  • Remove any objects from the sensors’ sightline

Other common causes of partially opening or closing doors include

  • Obstructions in the track
  • Faulty or broken spring system
My garage door Opens or closes too fast or too slow
  • Dirty tracks or rollers that need lubrication cause the door to open slowly. Sand and salt from winter roads can build up in the tracks, making the doors stick and open slowly. Dirty tracks can also make your door move unevenly.
  • Broken torsion springs or cables release the door to slam shut. Contact a professional to replace the spring system or cables.
My garage door Is making loud noises
  • Grinding or squeaking: The rollers need to be lubricated or are worn out. If lubricating the rollers does not solve the problem, contact a professional to replace them.
  • Rattling: The hardware is loose. Inspect the nuts, bolts, and screws throughout your system and tighten them as needed.
  • Popping: The torsion spring needs to be lubricated or adjusted. Contact a professional to resolve this problem to avoid injury or further damage.
My garage door Opens and closes unexpectedly
  • A garage door opening randomly or unexpectedly is usually a transmitter or control problem, such as:

    • Remote, wall control, or keypad buttons are stuck
    • There is a problem with the control wiring or electrical circuits
    • The limit setting on the opener needs to be recalibrated
